Aquatint and tones
Aquatint and tones
Aquatint is a range of etching techniques widely used by printmakers to achieve a broad range of tonal values.
Traditionally, aquatint referred to the quality of the tone resembling a watercolour or a “wash”. The idea of aquatint is to create a “tonal surface” rather then a line as produced either by engraving or through the use of hard grounds.
The aim of this workshop is to give each participant sufficient knowledge to add tones and washes ranging from light greys to rich velvet blacks on to pre-existing copper or zinc plates.
This workshop is intended for those with a basic knowledge and experience in Intaglio Etching (line etching, hard and soft grounds, dry-point etc)
The workshop spans over 2 sessions:
Wednesday evening - preparing the plates, setting aquatint and etching
Saturday morning - follow up etching and Printing
